Easy come easy go..

Hello all..well what the heck has happened to the nice sunshine..its like flipping Autumn out there.
Well the money we had saved in our jar which i must admit was a real surprise..
Has been spent on this for the girls for the garden..

Half price..a bargain i think and they spent ages outside playing..then the sun disappears and the rain comes down..typical.
Still hopefully the weather will improve..👍

O my word..what a surprise!!

Hello all..how are you today?
Yesterday we emptied our savings jar..it was so heavy and we were expecting about £10 from it.

The bowl was almost full..my son put in a jar of coins as well.
My mum and dad took it to the machine in Sainsburys for me..you will never guess how much was in there.

£32.01..i was shocked..but its a nice shock.
That money will be spent on buying new bits for the garden.A swing ball set for the girls and maybe some other bits as well.
What a lovely surprise that was.

Spring cleaning bug finally hit me..

Hello all how are you?
Well its finally got me..i kept thinking the house was ok and not too bad..don't get me wrong its not filthy at all but there are things that needed doing.
So last week i started..i have sugar soaped all the doors in the downstairs porch..washed scuff marks of the walls..cleaned windows and sorted the winter coats and wellies and put them away..i was hot and sweaty but it was worth it.
I moved onto the kitchen..that got it from top to bottom and now looks like it was just decorated..i took the blinds down and washed them on the line..Iris helped me to do that..we then rinsed them off with the hose pipe and i also got a rinse.I just need to slim it down in there and get rid of stuff i don't actually use..you know, the whim buy that sits there looking pretty but does nothing..i have a box at the ready for it all.

The dining room was the biggest task so far..the curtains are huge and heavy and i did struggle to get them down but i did it..they had a wash and didn't take long to dry..the room got a real good going over from top to bottom..the chandelier was taken to pieces and gently washed then put back together..i sorted the bookcases and gave some recipe books to my daughter Fionna..the girls also had jobs to do..they had to clean the picture frames and ornaments..we were at it all day and we all got an enormous amount of satisfaction from working together and getting it done.

The living room was a nightmare..took all day but had the same treatment as the dining room..totally blitzed from top to bottom..the girls did the same with the pictures and they sorted the bookcases as well..all books were dusted and the DVD's..i was relieved when we finally got it finished.
The girls room was next and we all did that..we moved the beds and hoovered under them..i can't reach the corners normally so it was really a dust bunny heaven in there..we also had a toy cleanse and book cleanse..we took the books to or local Post Office as they sell them for a charity..they were really pleased with the amount we took and we still have more to go.

I have still to do the bathroom and also our bedroom but the weather is just too warm to do it..i will when its cooled a little..
I was quite pleased with what we accomplished ..no chemicals involved in stain removing and i refreshed the carpets with Bicarb of soda..it smells so fresh and clean..i was proud of the girls for giving up toys and books that they have had for a long time..the room now looks clearer and its all in its place..and they have to keep it that way..or i will go in and just take what is left on the floor and give it away. Its a threat yes but it works.

We had our hair cut this week,,Fern decided she no longer wanted bum length hair and had it cut to just below her shoulders..she loved it for the first few days then regretted it..like i said to her it will grow back over time..afraid she had to learn the hard way.Iris just had a trim and i had a good trim.
The dog also had his haircut at Gonerby Gorgeous..he came back looking like a different dog..
Look how shaggy he looks..we bath him and brush him but his coat gets so flipping tangled..

He must feel so much better having all that hair cut off..cooler for him as well.
I have done no baking..i froze half of the last lot and we have eaten that..its all gone now so i will bake again this weekend depending upon the weather..i refuse to bake if its too hot.
All the houseplants have been taken outside and had the compost refreshed and leaves cleaned of dust..some needed repotting as well.
We have also been busy in the garden..i painted the outside porch in the evenings when it was cooler..it has gone from red to a nice dark green..hubby fixed the guttering and the felt roof..then he added a downpipe..it looks really good and not bad as it didn't cost a penny to do..we had the paint and all the guttering in his shed..it just cost us time.

I am still working on it..it needs a good clean inside and the steps painting but i will get to it.

We have had this old sink kicking around for ages..its never really done much but look a mess..last year i decided to put compost and flowers in it..hubby grew the Marigolds and i was given the Celosa for my birthday from my daugher Andrea..couldn't think were to put it until i spied the sink..i put in some Geraniums and a trailing Fuschia..plus a couple of other plants that i honestly don't know the name of them..but thought they looked pretty..hubby filled it all in this morning whilst the girls and i went to the Dentist for our 6 monthly check ups...doesn't it look amazing..and such a lovely thing to see when you come out the back door.
Our Cucumbers are growing well and will be at the top of the canes tomorrow i reckon.
We have Tomatoes growing away  and they have fruits on them already.
These are the Melons we are trying to grow..as you can see we have one growing..can't wait to see how it goes or not.
The Grape is doing amazingly well too..we have little bunches..6 at the last count.

So that is what we have been doing..and believe me folks we are shattered and need a day off. As the weather has been gorgeous we filled up the pool and got the trampoline out as well..that is great fun bouncing on that..i love it.We had our first BBQ of the summer as well..that was so nice to sit and eat and relax with everyone..unfortunately Ferns Hayfever has been playing her up but with the Piriteze it eased but not much..poor girl. The air conditioner we bought a few years back has been a life saver for them at night..it cools their bedroom to a comfortable level..our old fan is in the dining room and we splashed out and bought ourselves one for our bedroom..its like an oven in there..our bedroom gets the sun from first thing in the morning until afternoon. After waking up covered in sweat we decided to buy one..its so good .
So folks, thats us..keeping busy and on top of things..what have you been doing?

Our Pond..

Hello all,how are you?
We have a lovely pond in our garden..its been here for about 30 odd years..its my secret relaxation place..a chair a drink and just breathe and relax..its wonderful if you have been busy.
When we moved in here the pond had been filled in with dirt and bags of rubbish..which my hubby took a long tme to dig out and fix the holes that had been smashed into it..the previous tennants didn't like trees, grass, ponds or anything that buzzed..plus the bags of rubbish we dug out contained dirty clothes that had just been buried..YUK😲..we were shocked but then we shouldn't have been with the state of the house..why should the garden be any different..the poor council man tried to talk us out of doing the exchange with them..but they had what we needed..an extra bedroom.
Anyway back to the pond..it took my hubby months to sort it out..and the back garden looked like a battlefield during the redo.
Over the years our pond has taken on a life of its own..we don't do anything fancy to it and certainly don't use the expensive products you can buy to keep it clean..our filters are home made and the pumps were on sale when we bought them.
The plants, well Bullrushes to be precise are spreading nicely and look lovely swaying in the breeze..the Lillies have grown and now we have a lot of them..i love how they flower when the sunshines and close up when the sun goes in..fascinating to watch them.
Over the last 5-6 years the Toads and Frogs have spawned and stayed..we have resident dwellers and those who hop in now and again..the fish are a rare mix..we were given some Koi crossed with goldfish for free..they have now expanded and we have a lovely shoal that swim up and down the pond..they don'y mind us at all, especially when its really warm and they sunbathe..the girls stroke the fish and the fish don't move.We have had to put up a net and stop the Heron from having a free breakfast..it wasn't until we saw him with one of the bigger fish in his beak that we had to act..i kept wondering where the fish were disappearing to.
We have returning Dragonflies every year..i wait for them..they are so beautiful to watch and the colours of them are just mesmerising. They lay their eggs on the rushes and then we go look for them..we watch the little larvae fall off into the water..if we are lucky enough .

Our pond is by no means a show pond its left to its own devices and nature has done her thing..its beautiful to me and i love to look at it as i wash the pots and then go sit and just listen to frogs and toads singing and hopefully catch a glimpse of a tiny fish.
We have new additions  this week...we bought some pond snails..a natural cure for the algae that has built up..we popped them in and they promptly disappeared..we watched them crawl off and now we are hoping the fish don't eat them..
So that is my secret relaxation place..where's yours?

Generous neighbour..

Hello all..How the devil are you all?
Our neighbour who lives a few doors away ,at the wekend came over and gave us 2 lovely punnets of Strawberries..apparently he had been at a Steam Rally and a stallholder was going to bin a box full of them..our neighbour asked if he could have them..he was told "of course i was going to chuck them"..what???? chuck away a whole box of Strawberries..so home he came with them.
He was so generous he shared them all out between the neighbours..and they were a very welcome treat for us..we bought some cream and totally enjoyed them.
So on the subject of generosity ..are you generous?
I like to think we are..if we have excess fruit and veg we will share with our girls if they want it..and also the neighbours if they want some..last year we gave bags of salads and courgettes away along with beetroots and onions.I am hoping they were used and enjoyed as much as we enjoyed the Strawberries.
But then generosity comes in different forms..you can be generous in lots of ways..something insignificant to you can mean the whole world to someone else.
Generous with your time is one thing i think people do appreciate..just taking the time to chat to someone who probably doesn't have anyone to talk too..
Generosity is one thing that can't hurt you but helps others.
Teaching your children to generous but not to be taken for a ride is a good lesson as well.

What would you do?

Hello all,how are you today?
Well i was watching the news and saw Teresa May going to pop her leaflet through a door..the home owner came out and threw it in the bin.
I'm sorry but i think that is just plain rude..and surely he was brought up better. Not judging but manners are everything and its also how your perceived as well.Everyone has their own opinion on politics, religion ,relationships.,.it should never be personal.Just because you don't agree with someone else's views does not give you the right to be rude..there are lots of parenting views i do not agree with and also political and religious points of view but i am not rude to these people..each to their own.
A good healthy debate is often enlightening for both sides .

So ladies /gents..what would you do if a politician on the campaign trail knocked on your door..i know its  a rare sight but it might happen.
Would you firstly answer the door?
Or ignore them
Would you listen politely or shut the door?
After listening would you then say "i have already made my mind up thanks and say good bye or get lost"
Would you have questions for them?
Or like my husband with the Jehovahs Witness who come to the door..grill them and point out the wrongs and have a good debate with them.

If either party knocked on my door i would be polite and listen and tell them i have already voted by post but thanks for coming.
To be honest i would love to have both leaders of the parties knock on my door..i would invite them in and have a few questions for them both..but it ain't gonna happen really is it.

Love these..

Hello all..
Today i made some little treats for when we have icecreams or whipped puddings..
So easy and i have been meaning to make some for a while..

I made choclate spoons and some little Eiffel Towers..the spoons i popped sprinkles on..there were more but as soon as the girls saw them they wanted one..fair enough as they don't have choclate all the time..its considered a treat in this house.
I had the moulds for these for ages..but shame on me i never used them until today.
I am hoping they go down well with a bowl of ice cream..
