Michelle..please read..

Hi are you doing?
I hope you don't mind i pasted your comment on here but i feel its an important thing.
Please feel free to nosy around and if you want to ask questions please do.
I will tell you why i took my little girl out of school as i feel its valid..she didn't talk from the minute she left our door until the minute she came back home. She had a friend at school only one, who she stills see's now and is very good friends with her.
Fern was not a confident little girl ,she was very quiet and shy and this just added to the problem...her teacher was snowed under with children who had serious problems and disrupted the class, also with her being quiet she always got pushed to the back of the queue so to speak..this literally culminated in her feeling sad and so withdrawn we were both worried about her.The final straw was when i pointed out several times that she had the same reading book for almost 3 months..her teacher just said well she will have to speak up then..thats fine and good if you can hear her in the first place with the noise all around. My heart went out to Fern and i had enough and took the decision that i think has made her what she is today.
I got all of the questions of how is she going to socialize and get along with others her age.Are you worried she will be isolated and all that bumpf..well i can hand on heart say it was the absolutely best thing i ever did.
We stripped back to basics on all her learning and went at her pace and re-learnt everything.I think its the fact that it is one to one learning,no pressure ,no distractions and no one else making her feel stupid for not being able to do what they can.And that she could ask a question without having to fight for attention.
Fern is now a very happy and totally confident young lady..don't get me wrong she doesn't bound into unknown places and burst out "Hi i'm Fern.".but she has the absolute confidence in herself to go .
I personally think that if a child has confidence in themselves then the self esteem flows from them and i always say you can do anything in this world if you put your mind to it..its a truly amazing feeling when you see that moment something clicks and they grasp what you have been saying to them.

If you don't win your appeal are you definitely going to take her out?Once we told Fern this she couldn't wait..she counted down the days.
The Education Authority are brilliant..they offer advice and do a very informative book on all the groups and organizations that will help you if you need it.
There are absolutely loads of blogs and websites that are totally dedicated to Dyslexia and have so many topics and work sheets to help, truly amazing..the internet is a wonderful thing and you name it and they have it.
MrsLurchWalker is one of the absolute diamonds in this world and so are her girls.

Hi Sara. We have something in common you and I. She comes in the form of MrsLurcherwalker. Lyn, our dear friend, suggested I come to your blog because if I don't win a school relocation appeal I am thinking of home educating my 8 yesr old. She has difficulties connected to dyslexia that the schoolnrefusevto acknowledge so for her self esteem I may well do this. I am concerned re: social development though but I have to stay grounded in that her confidence and self esteem are what is important. I hope you don't feel me nosey but I feel I should tell you that I will be having a good look around your blog this evening.

New followers and first apples..

Our apple tree's are starting to groan under the weight of the we picked some of them..delicious and smell so fresh..At this rate i won't have to buy any for a good while i hope, especially when the other tree's are ready to pick as well.
I want to say hello and welcome to my 3 new followers..Espeja on Blogger and Gaynor and Sally on bloglovin..welcome to my little blog and i hope you enjoy it and leave a comment to say "Hi"..

Are you comfy???

Hello are you doing today?
As you know we have a little dog Jack..full of boundless energy and always wants to play ..however at night time its a different story.
He is not allowed in the living room during the day but when the girls have gone to bed he comes in and sits with us..or sprawls over us is a better word.
The other night i walked in the room to find this..
Totally sprawled out and fast asleep..he has such a hard little life..guarding against any intruders including the darn sure Jack wants to get him but he settles for trying to rip our post to pieces instead.
A happy little fella who just totally relaxes ..bless him.

Home happenings..

Well its been a while since i did one of these posts ..i have been extremely busy with one thing and another just lately. Our allotment is about to explode produce all over us ,so inside jobs and the little things are being done now before we get inundated.

I have started the Raspberry gin for Christmas gifts.

I picked our Chillies and have now strung them up to dry them ready to be put in oil.
I made Nutty Granola for Iris and myself..this time instead of Honey i used Maple Syrup..this is delicious.
I made a crunchy topped fruit cake for hubby and Sam.
These are for all of us..Choclate Brownies..nearly all gone now .

Above is what my dining room looked like earlier.. Iris and i made a huge Autumn collage..her scissor skills have come on no end and i don't scream inside anymore when she is cutting up paper..i would shudder and want to stop her as i always thought she was going to lose a finger..but no all fingers are intact ,she has gotten better and takes her time.

Fern has been learning to type on my typewriter..this is a first attempt at it..not too bad if i say so myself. This is part of her English work..she had to pretend to be a reporter and report the Death of the Twits..
We are going through our pile of Autumn books and learning all about the Harvest Festival and why it was started..also why the Seasons change from one to the other.I like it as well so i look forward to learning as well as the girls do.
O this little idea was my own..i get tired of having the bin bag disappear into the wheelie bin when its a new bag and then you put the rubbish in whoomp the bag has gone down the bottom..this is just an expander to hold it works great.
I finally finished painting the wooden trellis in the front doesn't look much but this actually helps keep the wind out the porch and also the rain..
The plants are doing great in the planters..these 2 little bushes were not happy in the back garden so i moved them into to tubs and put them in the porch..i have absolutely no idea what they are but they are about to flower..any ideas ladies what they are?
The do look nice and happy now.
I put up the Autumn wreath as well and also little bits inside as well..
Our Japanese Maple is going the beautiful shade of red.No sign of colour change in the Virginia Creeper yet.
The little cupboard i bought for a few pounds has a flap of wood down the side that i was going to take off..i decided not to and am glad i didn't do it.
My hubby found a hinge thingy and it holds up the flap so now the top of the cupboard ia almost doubled in also creates a little hidey hole for me to store the typewriter and sewing machine as well.

So that is what we have been up to.
How about all of you..have you been busy?

Paving slab attack..

Hello all,how are you doing?
My poor husband has a poorly of a rather large size.
In his excitement to get some wood for a shelf for his new refurbished shed he didn't see the paving slabs lent up against the wood..and wham straight down his leg nor just one but two of them. Honestly it made my tummy go all funny when he limped into the kitchen. I cleaned it up and put a dressing on it but it looks awful.
You can't tell from the picture but his leg is swollen and looking reddish..i will keep an eye on him.
 The offending slabs.
Bless him..

Been in a daze and super busy

Hello all,how are you all doing?
Well as my title says i have been in a daze..well up until last Thursday and the whoosh my week went so fast.
As you all know i had an emergency extraction at the Dentist..once i had feeling back in my face it bloody hurt to talk let alone anything else..i was in so much pain and thinking i would have to go back as something surely was wrong it didn't hurt like this before..i was taking paracetomol to ease the pain..nope not working at all..i literally wanted to cry..then i discovered that i had actually been taking decongestants..both from a well known supermarket and more or less in the same style was only when i went to take another one that i discovered my mistake..i felt so stupid.
Thankfully i managed to sort that out and get it under control and now its all good..o i did feel like a bloody dip honestly.I lived on Cuppa soups and porridge for a bit and lost weight lol..its all back on now as i love my food too much to miss out.
But life went on and we got busy with it..we took off the old shed roof and put on a new one..the girls were helping by passing screws to their dad and i kept the drinks coming as it was warm..i started to paint our front porch trellis..had to stop as my mouth was throbbing but its almost done now..

Shed roof before
Unfortunately we had to cut some Apple branches off but rest assured the apples went to good use.

Shed roof after

Now its waterproof we have been fixing up the outside and it will get a coat of paint and some new guttering we have been given.
The apples that had to be took early were a little sour so they were cooked and sugared and made into 3 huge crumbles and also pie filling and some apple sauce.
I have been sorting veg from the allotments and freezing freezer is nicely packed ready to see us through the Winter.
We have splashed a bit more cash and bought some blackout thermal for our bedroom and one for the living room..hoping it will make a huge difference to us ..i have finally found a seller who actually does these blinds wide enough to fit our dining room window..its very wide and not that deep. I am so excited to finally have one for this window..the sun blinds you for most of the afternoon what ever the season and also when the wind blows on it you can see the voile moving, they are not the best quality double glazed windows. So fingers crossed it will keep us shaded from the sun and warmer in the bad weather. Once it arrives i will take a picture.
The girls have been busy getting back into the school routine..admittedly last week was all over the place as i really didn't feel up to it..but no excuses this week.
I found some good French Lessons for them on Youtube..
They are wearing earplugs and i can hear them repeat the lessons..its quite nice to hear them.
We are concentrating on Autumn crafts and also learning all about the Harvest Festival and reading Autumn themed books i ordered from the library..i did buy them the Brambley Hedge ,Autumn and Winter books as a treat ..they have already gone through them and totally want the rest of the set..they will have to wait a little while i think.
We have put up our Autumn decorations..and have more to finish..
So its been busy here and i feel guilty i didn't post ..i see a lot of you have been busy too.
I have to admit i am enjoying the cooler days and looking forward to the changing colours of the trees.
How about all of you?

What a scorcher..

Phew it was a hot one today..but we shouldn't moan really..the last few days of Summer are going to be gorgeous ,so lets just enjoy them.
I had put the pool away for the year but out it came again this morning to be filled up ..the girls had a great afternoon splashing about and just laying on towels warming up again.
We are supposed to be starting the new shed roof this week..we have ordered it and paid for it and its being delivered tomorrow..but the weather is a bit warm for us to be ripping down the old one and putting up the new one..we are just going to enjoy the warmth and relax before the Autumn sets in properly. It will be done when it has cooled a little.
I hope that you all enjoy the days .

O not again..back to the dentist..

Hello all,i hope that your ok today?
Well i have had a rough day or 2..i got toothache ..i was so hoping that it would just go but obviously it doesn't happen like that. Even though i wish it would.I had a rough night and woke up to that awful throb, swollen face and felt like i had been beaten up.
I rang my dentists and they got me in..i arrived and 10 minutes later my tooth was removed..never felt a thing,i was numbed up for i have another huge hole in my mouth that is very flipping sore and i have only just got the feeling back in my mouth,5 and a half  hours later but thankfully no more toothache.
No doubt it will be sore for a while but i am relieved its gone.Painkillers at the ready and i am going to put my feet up tonight and have an early night.
Hubby and girls have looked after me today..plenty of cuddles and kisses and hubs has kept me supplied with drinks.
All i can say is thank the lord we are registered with a dentist..and they are wonderful in trying to do everything they can to help.
Am off to sit down and feel a little sorry for myself.

Its a girl..well will be when she arrives..

Hello all,how are you today?
My lovely daughter Fionna is expecting a little girl..i know not everyone wants to know but they did and thats their choice.
Fionna has had to have a few scans to check as the baby wouldn't co-operate and they couldn't get a clear scan of the heart..but they have now and all is fine.
So little one is good and so is mum..she is swelling well as they say and the baby is quite a biggie .
A little pic of her ..

The grand children already to go..
Back to school..don't they all look so happy and smart..i hope they had a great day.We also went back to school today and spent the day just kinda revisiting stuff we did and just a relaxing day.Iris actually stunned me with her reading this afternoon, very proud of her..she got words she has struggled with and her capacity for vocabulary has expanded a lot..blimey i was stunned into silence for once. This reading for 5 minutes twice a day is paying off.
I hope you all had a great day as well.

This will keep us warm..

Hello all,how are you today?
As you know i went shopping with my mum last week. We went to an Antique place for a good look around and whilst we were there i saw a Bargain had lots of vintage fabric and curtains in it.Right at the bottom was a golly it reeked and had a smallish brown stain on the back. Trouble was there was no prices on any of it or the bin itself. There was no one around to ask ,so i let it go.It actually bugged me for the rest of the day and i kept thinking about it.
The next day i asked my mum to pop back and see if she could find a price for me..i was prepared to pay £5 or maybe £ mum went and found the fella and he wanted £ mum pointed out it smelt and needed a darn good wash and was stained..he asked what she thought she should pay..quick as a flash mum said £6..and bingo deal was done.
What do you think..i think its a real bargain..and its been washed and dried and the stain came looks perfect.

Stepped on a sodding Lego..twice..

Hello all,how are you today?
Well today i was doing what i have been putting off for a while, getting all the work ready for school to restart next week. I am sure my printer was beginning to dislike me by the end of seemed to get slower, but i got it all done. I sorted last years school work and put that away and got out the new school books and folders for them. I made some Beginning blends for Iris..using Colour Charts..she loved them and can't wait to get cracking..i will also use them as her weekly spelling tests.Fern has more Hand writing in cursive and also a lot of Literacy work..Fact finding,Verb work, and Lapbooks to do..she really enjoys them.
I was doing that in the dining room so the girls took over the living room with the Lego and Lego was all over and i gingerly picked my way across the carpet only to step on a block..them little things are i jumped off it i stepped on another..ouch!!!
You can see the size of the box they have..that was all over the floor..i made them tidy it all up,then they cleared off and left it..its still here looking at me.No point putting it back upstairs as they want to play with it again it can stay there.

I saw this gorgeous picture the other day..turns out it is a set of pictures with a different girl for each month..i printed it and Fern framed it then dad put it up..i will change it every month..
Can you tell i took over the table..mind you my printing it nothing compared to what Hard up Hester has to do at work.

So i am already to go for Monday..i just hope the girls are.
take care
